Bank Statement PDF to QIF — Universal ledger format

QIF predates most of the software that reads it, which is exactly why it is useful: Quicken, MYOB, GnuCash, Moneydance and a long tail of older packages all still accept it when they accept nothing else.

The oldest and simplest format, and the one almost everything can still read.

Read by almost everything

When a program will not take CSV and will not take OFX, it usually takes QIF.

One signed amount per row

Debits negative, credits positive, taken from the column the bank used rather than guessed from the narration.

Balance kept in the memo

The running balance travels alongside each entry, so you can reconcile against the statement afterwards.
