Dates are Excel dates and amounts are numbers, so totals, sorting and pivot tables work as soon as it opens. The Reference column stays text, so a long transaction id keeps every digit instead of becoming 4.2E+22.

The memo is joined to the payee rather than dropped, and the cheque number — or the bank's transaction id — goes in the Reference column.
