Convert an Indian Bank Statement PDF to Excel
Indian Bank statement conversion, including post-merger Allahabad Bank layouts, and the checks that confirm completeness.
Indian Bank absorbed Allahabad Bank in 2020, and that merger still shows up in statements today — which is the main thing worth knowing before converting one.
Two legacy layouts in circulation
Accounts migrated from Allahabad Bank may still produce statements in the legacy Allahabad format, while accounts originally with Indian Bank produce the Indian Bank format. Column orders and header wording differ between them.
If you are pulling several years of history for a migrated account, you may well get both formats in the same set. Convert each statement separately rather than merging the PDFs first, so each is read with the right layout.
Checking a multi-statement set
- Convert and verify each statement individually Against its own printed totals.
- Combine the exports Each export keeps the columns of the layout it came from, so line up a legacy Allahabad export's columns with a current one's before stacking them.
- Sort by date Merged files can end up out of order.
- Check period continuity Each statement's closing balance should equal the next one's opening balance. A gap means a missing period.
That last step is the one people skip, and it is the one that catches an entire missing month — a much bigger problem than a misread digit.
What the export contains
| In the file | What you get |
|---|---|
| That layout's own columns | Every heading as the statement prints it. A legacy Allahabad statement keeps Allahabad's headings |
| Dates | Exactly as printed in that layout, with nothing reformatted |
| Descriptions | In full, with continuation lines joined into one cell |
| Amounts | Each in the column the statement printed it in |
| A Completeness sheet | Every row checked against the printed running balance, and the statement's own totals where it prints them |
Why the PSU mergers matter for conversion
The 2019–2020 consolidation left several banks producing more than one statement layout, and those legacy formats are still in circulation for migrated accounts.
That is an argument against per-bank templates in general. A converter that maps "Indian Bank" to one fixed layout will fail on a migrated Allahabad account, and the failure is not obvious — it produces a plausible-looking file with columns misassigned.
Frequently asked questions
My old statements look different from my new ones. Is that a problem?
Not for converting them: layout is detected per file, so a legacy Allahabad statement and a current Indian Bank statement both convert. Each keeps its own columns, though, so line them up before stacking one on the other.
Which banks were affected by the PSU mergers?
Union Bank absorbed Andhra and Corporation; Canara absorbed Syndicate; PNB absorbed OBC and United; Indian Bank absorbed Allahabad. All can produce more than one layout.
Are Indian Bank passbook scans supported?
Via OCR, with lower accuracy than an e-statement. Download the PDF from internet banking where possible.
