Convert a Federal Bank Statement to Excel or CSV
Federal Bank statement layout, the columns worth keeping, and a practical check that your converted file is complete.
Federal Bank statements convert reliably. This guide is mostly about what to keep and how to check, rather than about working around a format problem.
Keep the reference column separate
Federal Bank prints a reference or cheque number alongside each transaction. It is tempting to let it sit inside the description, but keeping it separate has two concrete benefits.
First, reconciliation. If you are matching against issued cheques or against vouchers in an accounting package, matching on reference number is far more reliable than matching on description text.
Second, safety. A long reference number embedded in a text field is a number waiting to be misinterpreted as an amount. Any number with ten or more digits and no decimal separator is a reference, not money — but only if something enforces that rule.
What the export contains
| In the file | What you get |
|---|---|
| Federal Bank's own columns | Every heading as printed, in the same order, value date included where the statement prints one |
| Dates | Exactly as printed, with nothing reformatted |
| Descriptions | In full, with wrapped lines joined into one cell |
| Reference | In the column Federal Bank prints it in, stored as text in the Excel file so it stays whole |
| Amounts | Each in the column Federal Bank printed it in |
| A Completeness sheet | Every row checked against the printed running balance, and the statement's own totals where it prints them |
The check that takes thirty seconds
Sum the debit column. Sum the credit column. Compare both against the totals printed on the statement. If they match, and the closing balance follows from the opening balance, your file is complete and correct.
That is the whole of verification, and it is worth doing every time regardless of which tool produced the file.
Converting
- Download the e-statement PDF From FedNet or the FedMobile app.
- Supply the password if the file is protected Emailed statements usually are.
- Upload and convert Reference numbers stay in the column Federal Bank prints them in, as text, so they are never read as amounts.
- Run both checks Chain for correctness, totals for completeness.
NRI account considerations
Federal Bank has a large NRI customer base, and NRE and NRO accounts carry considerations a domestic account does not.
NRE interest is tax-free in India while NRO interest is not, which means the two need keeping separate rather than combined into one figure. Where a customer holds both, each account's transactions and interest credits should be verified and reported independently.
Frequently asked questions
Does this work with FedMobile exports?
Yes — the app produces the same PDF layout as internet banking.
Should NRE and NRO accounts be combined?
No. They have different tax treatment, so keep them separate: convert each account's statement on its own and keep the files apart. No account column is added to tell them apart afterwards.
Are NRI account statements supported?
Yes, including NRE and NRO accounts. Amounts come through exactly as printed, currency marks included.
