Convert an IDBI Bank Statement to Excel
IDBI Bank statement layout, the PSU-style summary rows to exclude, and how to confirm your Excel export reconciles.
IDBI Bank statements follow the public-sector layout conventions common across Indian PSU banks, which means the same handful of issues appear as with PNB, Union Bank and UCO.
The PSU statement pattern
PSU bank statements share a recognisable structure: an account header block, a transaction table with repeated headers on each page, a period summary, and a footer on every page carrying the branch details and a page number.
Three of those four contain text that looks like data to a naive converter. Only the transaction table is transactions.
| Block | Contains | Belongs in output? |
|---|---|---|
| Account header | Account number, name, address, branch | As account metadata, not transactions |
| Transaction table | The actual transactions | Yes |
| Repeated page headers | Column names | No — skipped wherever they appear |
| Period summary | Opening, closing, total debits, total credits | As verification data, not transactions |
| Page footer | Branch, page number, disclaimers | No |
Keeping the account details out of the rows
The header block is genuinely useful — account number, account holder, branch, IFSC, statement period. It is not a transaction, though, and mixed into the transaction rows it breaks every sort and total.
The converted file is IDBI's transaction table and nothing else. The header block stays on the PDF, which remains the record of whose account this is and which period it covers.
Why the checks get a sheet of their own
The Excel export has two sheets: the Statement sheet, which is IDBI's table as printed, and a Completeness sheet, which says what the rows were checked against and what did not agree.
Keeping the checks off the Statement sheet is what makes the file usable month after month. Appending next month's rows below this month's gives one continuous table, with no block of results interleaved into the middle of the data.
Verifying
IDBI prints opening and closing balances and period totals. Check all four figures rather than just the closing balance, so offsetting errors cannot hide.
Frequently asked questions
Are IDBI statements password-protected?
E-statements emailed by IDBI usually are. Supply the password at upload, or unlock the file first.
How do I combine several months of statements?
Stack only the Statement sheets. Each Completeness sheet stays with its own statement, where it is meaningful.
Does it handle IDBI current account statements?
Yes, including the additional charge and fee rows those carry.
