Convert a UOB Bank Statement to Excel
UOB statement conversion, the regional layout differences across Singapore and Malaysia, and verification.
UOB operates across Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and elsewhere, and statement layouts differ by market — the same brand does not mean the same format.
Layout is a property of the file, not the bank
This is worth stating generally because it drives how conversion should work. A UOB Singapore statement and a UOB Malaysia statement have different column orders, different date formats and different terminology.
A converter that maps bank name to a fixed template will handle whichever market it was built for and fail on the others. Detecting structure from the file itself is what makes one tool work across markets.
Date formats vary by market
| Market | Typical date format | Ambiguous? |
|---|---|---|
| Singapore | DD/MM/YYYY | Yes, below the 13th |
| Malaysia | DD/MM/YYYY | Yes, below the 13th |
| Thailand | DD/MM/YYYY, sometimes Buddhist era years | Yes, and the year needs converting |
| Indonesia | DD/MM/YYYY | Yes, below the 13th |
Thai statements deserve particular care: Buddhist era years run 543 ahead of the Gregorian calendar, so a statement dated 2569 is 2026. A converter that does not recognise this produces dates 543 years in the future.
This converter does not convert Buddhist era years. The Excel and CSV keep every date exactly as printed, so 2569 stays 2569, and the QBO, QFX and OFX downloads would carry it as the year too. Subtract 543 from the year in the spreadsheet first, then turn that into a ledger file with CSV to QBO.
Verifying
Chain plus totals, as always. On a statement where the date format was ambiguous, also sanity-check that the dates fall inside the statement period printed on the document — that catches a wrong format immediately.
What you get back
| In the file | What you get |
|---|---|
| That market's own columns | Every heading as the statement prints it, in the same order |
| Dates | Exactly as printed, Buddhist era years included. Nothing is reformatted or converted |
| Descriptions | In full, transfer references included, with wrapped lines joined into one cell |
| Withdrawal and Deposit | Each figure in the column UOB printed it in |
| A Completeness sheet | Every row checked against the printed running balance, and the statement's own totals where it prints them |
Verifying a UOB conversion
UOB statements carry a running balance and printed period totals, so both checks are available and both are worth running.
On a statement from a market where the date convention was ambiguous, add a third check: confirm every converted date falls inside the statement period printed on the document. A misread format or an unconverted Buddhist era year fails that immediately.
Frequently asked questions
Does it convert Buddhist era dates?
No. The year is kept exactly as printed, so a Thai statement dated 2569 says 2569 in the spreadsheet. Subtract 543 to get the Gregorian year before importing anywhere.
Does the same tool handle my accounts in different countries?
Yes. Layout is detected from each file rather than looked up by bank name, which is what allows a UOB Singapore and a UOB Malaysia statement to convert correctly with no configuration.
Are UOB credit card statements supported?
Yes, with verification against printed totals since cards carry no running balance.
