Convert a Chime Statement to Excel
Chime statement conversion, the summary block that can contradict the transaction rows, and why that discrepancy matters.
Chime statements are simple in structure, which makes them a good illustration of a verification problem that has nothing to do with layout complexity.
When the summary disagrees with the rows
It is possible for a statement's printed summary totals not to match the sum of its own printed transaction rows. This happens occasionally on genuine statements, and routinely on statements that have been edited.
When it happens, a converter has a choice. It can report the discrepancy, or it can quietly present the extracted rows as correct and say nothing.
The second is more comfortable and considerably less useful. If the document contradicts itself, the person relying on it needs to know — particularly if that person is assessing the statement for a loan or a rental application.
What we do with it
The extraction is reported honestly: here are the rows found, here is what they sum to, here is what the statement says they should sum to, and these do not agree. That is more useful than either silently trusting the rows or refusing to produce output.
The same principle applies across every check. There is more on the reasoning in how to spot a fake bank statement.

What the Chime export contains
| In the file | What you get |
|---|---|
| Chime's own columns | Every heading as printed, in the same order |
| Dates | Exactly as printed, with nothing reformatted |
| Descriptions | Merchant or transfer counterparty, as printed |
| Amounts | Each figure in the column Chime printed it in |
| A Completeness sheet | The rows checked against the statement's own figures, with any disagreement stated rather than hidden |
Chime statements as income evidence
Chime is a common primary account, which means its statements are frequently used as proof of income for rentals and lending.
For that purpose, direct deposit credits are the rows that matter. They carry the employer name in the descriptor, which makes filtering to them straightforward and gives a clean pay history without manually separating payroll from transfers.
Frequently asked questions
What should I do if verification reports a discrepancy?
Compare the extracted rows against the PDF around the summary figures. Genuine statements occasionally disagree for benign reasons; it is still worth understanding why before relying on the file.
How do I show regular income from a Chime statement?
Filter to direct deposit credits — they carry the employer name — and group by month. The regularity is what an assessor is looking for.
Are Chime Credit Builder statements supported?
Yes, though as a card product they carry no running balance and verify against printed totals.
